Maternity guide
Congratulations mama! I'm truly over the moon excited for you and am honored to work with you and capture this beautiful moment in your life. In this guide, you will find some of the best tips and tricks for a successful maternity session.
The day of your shoot, I recommend to moisturize your belly before the session to avoid any dry looking skin. Especially if you're looking to get a few bare belly shots. Nude panties and bra are best if you choose any maternity dress that may show or expose certain areas. If you've picked anything with black lace then black bra and panties are great! Try to avoid wearing tight panties and bra. A looser fit will ensure that no lines will form through tighter fitting dresses. If you're interested in any images of you in just your under garments, then matching sets are perfect for this. Nudes, blacks, whites or any coloured set you prefer. Soft colours and lace photograph best. This is also a great option to have just a blanket, fabric, jacket or cozy cardigan wrapped around you with your belly popping out.
A lot of images will be focused around your hands and having them on your tummy and cradling your bump. I will be taking lots of images of you holding your partner's hands as well. This is a perfect time for mom to go get pampered beforehand or even applying a clear coat can make a huge difference. I would stay away from using bright neon colors or anything that will pop out too much. The goal is to have everything flow nicely together.
Do's, dont's and things to bring.
If your little ones will be joining the photos, please avoid giving them any snacks or foods that could stain their teeth, tongues, or fingers before the session. This includes things like candy, Cheetos, or juices.
Before your session, it’s a good idea to apply lotion to everyone’s elbows, ankles, knees, and any other exposed skin, including dad's.
During the session, feel free to bring a treat for your child, but choose snacks that won’t cause staining. Bringing water or a non-staining juice or milk is also recommended.
It’s also helpful to have comfortable shoes like flip-flops on hand, especially if we’ll be doing a lot of walking at the location.
Posing and Expression Tips
Embrace Your Belly
Focus on Connection with your partner, children and baby bump.
If older children are part of the shoot, encourage them to interact with your belly, which can be kissing it, hugging it, or simply resting a hand on it. This adds a tender, familial touch to the images. My goal is to capture expressions and emotion
A gentle smile or a soft gaze downward at your belly can convey calm and contentment.
At the same time, don’t be afraid to let loose with a laugh! This can add warmth and spontaneity to your photos. I'll also ask you to close your eyes for some shots. Close your eyes and take a deep breath, allowing yourself to connect with your baby. This pose is more serene moment.
Props to consider bringing along.
Ultrasound Photos, baby shoes or a certain clothing you want to photography. Maybe one where you can do a before and after once baby arrives.
Once we begin, relax.

Be yourself and the best photos will come when you feel comfortable and confident. Enjoy the moment, and let your excitement and love shine through!
Things to bring:
